Its being noticed that there is a problem in the fashion industry for mixed-race models who weren't seen as black enough to be black and not white enough to be white.
So this week THE SPORAH SHOW decided to invite different types of models to hear their opinion.
PURE NATURE BLODE MODEL
MIXED-RACE MODES AND
PURE BLACK MODELS
MEET THE MIXED-RACE MODELS.
Hey Guys,Welcome to the show.
Thank you Sporah, Its nice to be here.
so guys, are mixed-race models ignored by the fashion industry?
Oh Yes Sporah, big time.
I think there is still a lot of prejudice in fashion; it's difficult if they're after a certain look. I've met only few of mixed-race models – mostly models seem to be white or black.
A survey earlier this year by Cardiff University found that people whose parents are different races are considered the most naturally beautiful. The study took 1,205 black, white and mixed-race faces from Facebook groups and had them rated by participants on a scale of one to 10. Mixed-race faces has a 55 per cent greater chance of being rated attractive than either of the single races.
Oh It doesn't work like that Sporah in the Modelling Industry, Becoming a fashion model is not just about having the right look and style.
Hold on a second.! Mixed-race people make up a small proportion of the population, they are over-represented at the top level of a number of meritocratic professions, such as acting with Halle Berry, Formula One racing with Lewis Hamilton and, of course, politics with Barack Obama."
I agree to some degree, thus far, models such as Noémie Lenoir – the former face of Marks and Spencer, whose mother is black and from the island of Réunion and whose French father is white – are still in the minority.
thank you guys to be on the show, highly appreciated.
MEET THE NATURAL BLONDE,
SUPER MODEL HARRIADNIE BEAU.
Welcome to the show Harriadnie beau.
"THEY SAY BLONDES MAKE THE BEST"
Thank you for having me Sporah
Blonde make the best..! Not Sure.
People think that most real modeling jobs are reserved for haute couture international models, mostly if you're attractive (blonde especially)..!
Do you find it difficulty to get jobs.
It's not about being blonde.! NOT AT ALL
Yes am Natural Blonde but i still go through a lot of challenges.
Sometimes, the pressure is not more on the shows or work, but is more on finding agencies that can represent models and find them work.
I just got a deal with LOREAL and they want me to cut off my hair..!
In this Industry, You need to have a great personality in order to make in modelling career, you need to be able to work with a host of professionals such as hair stylists and photographers and also be very strong willed as there will always be a certain amount of rejection.
Talk me about Alcohol and Drug abuse in the modelling industry.!
Every case is unique.
Yes sometimes we come across alcohol, cigarettes, canapés (bhang), heroine-white sugar, sexy party, but it all depend on individuals.
NEXT IS HEAVEN AFRIKA WITH HER MODELS FROM HER AGENCY PANTHERS
Why Are Successful Black Models So Rare?
Thank you for having us Sporah
The truth is "In the 80s and early 90s, black models were used a lot - and then the demand just stopped. When you have a recession, the industry starts playing it safe and, traditionally, blonde models with blue eyes sell better. In high-end fashion there are still opportunities but it takes longer to establish a new black model than a white girl.
Unfortunately black models have to be very special and very determined to win work. I don't think it's a racist thing; it's led by money. Magazines are scared to take a punt on something that might not sell."
WE HAD A LOT OF FUN AFTER THE SHOW...!
